20/20 Vision Factory's Web FAQ's & Links Page
This is an attempt to answer some of the most common questions about web site's and pages.
Servers: Not all servers are created equal. Some shopping around is the best, it's really about what your can afford and what your needs are. The big servers like Yahoo Small Business (our preferred host), and their like provide for much functionality and security, with minimal down time, and good customer service. A bit higher in priced for their basic e-commerce, it's around $40 per month, compared with the $11.00 per month for their standard web hosting solution. Where as some of the others don't have quite the team of professionals on call for you. Check the links at the bottom for a few various hosts.
Meta Tags: <meta name="keywords" and <meta name="description" This is in the html header of your page and it's what tells crawlers and search engines about the content of your site, if it's not up to snuff you'll get over looked. Check out http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/appendix/notes.html section B4.
Style: Did you know that if the person (s) viewing your page / site is running older software versions they may not see your pretty font? there is no perfect list of fonts, but better to use the k.i.s.s. method or list alternates in your html than having someone come to your website and find it unreadable! amagical.com has a good article on Web safe fonts also check out The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for GOOD information and tutorials.
Links: The more relevant links on your page, the faster you are seen and picked up by the engines, they look for good sites with pages that contain lots of information, with many links to other sites/similar sites.
Site Updating: Crawlers and search engines check dates on pages, leaving in the dust non-progressive, non-updated sites, Sites should have new content added on a regularly scheduled (30 to 90 day)basis for high visibility
E-Commerce: There are
lots of ways to go about it, from small to big. There's Yahoo Store Front,
Paypal,
EBay Store Front, the Ms FrontPage Add-in
Version 2:bCentral
Commerce Manager, they all offer secure transactions services, the bottom
line is fee's. Again, research is your ally in this concern. A good place to
start is the ecommerce software review
